Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The one who's truly awake is the one grace has touched — it's not something you force into being all by yourself.
And for that person, the real wealth stays whole: safe, unspoiled, entirely theirs.
This one says real wakefulness is a gift of grace.
This is the rahao doojaa, the second pause line. It is a closing refrain that says the heart of the shabad once more. So jaagai jis parabh kirpaal — the one who is awake is the one to whom the One is kind. Ih poonjee saabat Dhan maal — their poonjee, their true wealth, stays whole.
It ends the shabad by naming where wakefulness comes from. Not from private effort, but from grace. Think of the sun that wakes you through the window. You did not make the sun rise. And because the waking itself was a gift, the treasure it guards cannot be broken.
Is there a kind of alertness that feels less like trying hard and more like being cared for?
