The moment I put my hands to good use for the One, they feel clean and blessed, and the tangles of chasing after things start to fall away.
So let my tongue keep tracing the goodness of the One, over and over — friends, that is where peace is found.
Guru Arjan says that when your hands and your voice turn toward the good, the tangles of grabbing start to loosen.
Hasat puneet — the hands are made holy, right away. Rasnaa ramhu — let the tongue keep going over the praises of the One. Together, hands and speech both turn toward the One. Remembrance is something the whole body does, not only the mind.
Maa-i-aa janjaal means the tangles of maya, the passing show of the world. The world is not bad. It is the grabbing after it that ties us in knots, like a kite string that gets more tangled the harder you pull.
Notice how Guru Arjan speaks here: mayray bhaa-ee meet, my siblings, my friends. He sounds like a companion sharing good news, not a teacher giving a lecture.
What is something you can do with your hands today that would feel genuinely good to do?
