In plain words

People are brought together in this life by the threads of destiny. And for as long as the flow of life allows, they share their days and their joys together.

The people we're bound to are woven to us by threads we didn't tie — a gift held for its season.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan says the people we love are brought to us as a gift, for as long as the One allows.

Kalijug is the name for the present age. Sanjog means coming together by destiny: lives woven together in a way we can't fully see. Jichar aagi-aa tichar bhogeh bhog: as long as it is granted, they share their joys. Every togetherness is held inside hukam, the flow of existence. It is given for a season, not owned.

Think of a school year with your best friends in one class. It is a real gift, and it lasts its time. This opening sets up the shabad's real question: what does true love and union rest on? The tone is tender and honest. Closeness is a gift for its time.

A Question to Sit With

Who has destiny woven into your life that you're grateful for right now?
