In plain words

When I have wandered off, the teaching gently shows me the path again.

It turns me toward the One, quiets my fear of what lies ahead, and its goodness has no end.

When you wander off, a true teaching gently sets you back on the path.
The deeper layer

The Guru says that when we wander off, the Teacher shows us the path again.

Bhoolay ka-o gur maarag paa-i-aa — the Guru puts the one who wandered back on the road. Maarag means path. Think of getting lost in a big shop, and a kind helper walks you back to your family.

Avar ti-aag har bhagtee laa-i-aa — the Guru turns us away from other things and toward loving the One. Bhagtee means loving devotion.

Janam maran kee traas mitaa-ee — the Guru takes away the fear of birth and death. Traas means fear. The Teacher's gift is to calm that fear, not to stir it up.

Bay-ant vadaa-ee — the Guru's greatness has no end.
