A Glory Beyond Describing

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

paarbarahm gur rahi-aa samaa-ay.
The Guru remains absorbed in the Supreme Lord God.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਗ ॥

In plain words

The greatness of the teaching is more than any words can hold.

It rests fully in the One — and the one whose good fortune is complete finds their heart drawn to it.

The teaching's greatness is beyond words because it rests fully in the One.
The deeper layer

The Guru says that the Teacher's greatness is more than words can hold.

Gur kee mahimaa kathan na jaa-ay — the Guru's glory cannot be told. Why? Because paarbarahm gur rahi-aa samaa-ay — the Guru is fully one with the Highest One. Trying to describe that is like trying to fit the whole sky into one photo.

Jaa kay pooray bhaag means one whose good fortune is full. This is not luck someone earned. It is the kindness that turns a heart toward the teaching.

Gur charnee taa kaa man laag — that person's mind holds on to the Guru's feet. It is how the song began, and it is where it ends: a heart that has found where to lean.

A Question to Sit With

What is something so good that you struggle to put it into words?
