Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, O my friend.

Your consciousness shall become immaculate and pure.

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Keep the Name of the One in mind, my friend.
Your thoughts grow clear and clean.
Every trouble that clings to mind and body loosens and lets go,
and all the pain and darkness simply lift.
Hold the Name, and darkness lifts the way a room brightens when the shade goes up.
Addressed warmly to mayray meet — 'my friend' — this shabad speaks the way you would to someone you love. Nirmal ho-ay tumhaaraa cheet — the mind grows clear, like water settling until you can see the bottom. Dookh andhayraa saglaa jaa-ay: pain and darkness do not have to be fought off; held in the Name, they simply lift, the way a room brightens when a shade is raised.
