Singing Carries You Across

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਤਰੀਐ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
har gun gaavat taree-ai sansaar.
Singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, cross over the world-ocean.
ਵਡ ਭਾਗੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
vad bhaagee paa-ee-ai purakh apaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By great good fortune, one attains the Infinite Lord, the Primal Being. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Singing the goodness of the One, you cross this whole wide world.

By great good fortune, you meet the Endless One, the very first Being.

You don't escape the world — you sing your way across it.
The deeper layer

The rahau: har gun gaavat taree-ai sansaar — singing is itself the crossing. Vad bhaagee ('by great good fortune') points, as always, to grace: meeting the purakh apaar (the Infinite, Primal Being) is not an achievement earned but a gift one becomes ready to receive. The whole vast world (sansaar) is crossed not by escaping it but by singing one's way through it.

A Question to Sit With

What song or activity makes a hard stretch of time feel lighter to get through?
