In plain words

The Name of the pure One is like cool, clear, healing water.

Held gently on the tongue, it washes old mistakes away.

The Name is cool, clear water — it rinses the heart the way water rinses dust.
The deeper layer

This is the rahau, and it comes first — the note the whole shabad hums. Naam niranjan neer naraa-in — the Name is neer, water: cooling, cleansing, life-giving. Just as water carries away dust, remembering the Name (rasnaa simrat) rinses old mistakes from the heart. The whole shabad after this repeats the word Naaraa-in at the head of nearly every line, like a name softly repeated until it fills the room.

A Question to Sit With

When have you felt 'washed clean' inside after letting something go?
