Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I am so grateful for good and loving people.

In their company, I sing of the One.

Near them, the weight of old mistakes lifts away.

By great good fortune, I have found the shelter of good company.

Good company lightens old mistakes just by being the kind of company it is.
The deeper layer

This shabad, closing Guru Arjan's Gond set, returns to its favorite theme: santan kai balihaarai jaa-o — deep gratitude for good company. Sant parsaad kilvikh sabh ga-ay — near good people, old mistakes lift; not because they judge you, but because their company steadies and lightens you. Finding this shelter is vadbhaagee — great good fortune, grace — not a prize you win.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people who make you a little better just by being around them?
