Verse 5 of 9

The Care-Free One Ends Every Fear

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਜਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੇ ॥
saas saas jan sadaa salaahay.
With each and every breath, the Lord's humble slaves praise Him.
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥
paarbarahm gur bayparvaahay.
The Supreme Lord God and the Guru are care-free.
ਸਗਲ ਭੈ ਮਿਟੇ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਿ ॥
sagal bhai mitay jaa kee saran.
All fears are eradicated, in His Sanctuary.
ਨਿੰਦਕ ਮਾਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਭਿ ਧਰਨਿ ॥੪॥
nindak maar paa-ay sabh Dharan. ||4||
Smashing all the slanderers, the Lord knocks them to the ground. ||4||

In plain words

With every breath, loving hearts sing the One's praise.

The One and the Guide are wonderfully care-free.

In their shelter, every fear is wiped away.

And ill-will, striking at the good, sinks under its own weight.

The One is wonderfully care-free — and in that shelter every fear is wiped away.
The deeper layer

Saas saas ... sadaa salaahay — praise with every breath. The keynote here is bayparvaah — care-free: the One and the Guide carry no anxiety, and that carefree steadiness is exactly what dissolves our fear (sagal bhai mitay jaa kee saran). The closing line about slanderers being 'knocked to the ground' is rendered as ill-will sinking under its own weight — again keeping the focus on the shelter's safety, not on anyone's downfall.

A Question to Sit With

What is a worry you could set down if you trusted you were truly safe?
