In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

When I meet someone whose heart is open and kind, I lean in — I listen, I ask, I let their words settle into me.

And when I meet someone all closed up, spoiling for a fight, I don't fire back. I let my quiet be my answer.

With the open-hearted, speak and listen; with the closed and quarrelsome, let a calm silence be your reply.
The deeper layer

The opening verse of the Gond Bhagat block sets the theme: speech is a companion you keep, so choose its company well. Sant (a settled, awake person) draws real conversation out of you; with an asant (someone closed and quarrelsome) Kabir counsels masat — a peaceful silence, not a sulk. Silence here is a skill, not a defeat.

A Question to Sit With

When has staying quiet actually been the wisest thing you could say?
