Sikhism·Raag Gond·Shabad 35
Verse 3 of 5

My Mind Is Dyed In The Name

ਤੁਰੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਛੋਡੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
turee naar kee chhodee baataa.
He has given up all talk of his weaving equipment.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਵਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
raam naam vaa kaa man raataa.
His mind is attuned to the Lord's Name.
ਲਰਿਕੀ ਲਰਿਕਨ ਖੈਬੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
larikee larikan khaibo naahi.
His daughters and sons have nothing to eat,
ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧਾਪੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
mundee-aa an-din Dhaapay jaahi. ||2||
while the shaven-headed mendicants night and day eat their fill. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I've set aside all the old talk of looms and thread; my mind is soaked through with the One's Name now.

My family frets over what's on the table, while the seekers I sit with seem so richly fed on something you can't see.

A heart can be so dyed in the Name that it feeds on what others cannot even see.
The deeper layer

Raam naam vaa kaa man raataa — his mind is dyed, colored right through, with the Name. The verse is honest about the real cost and the real tension: family worries about food while the company of seekers feasts on the unseen. The project reads this not as a call to neglect anyone, but as a portrait of how completely the Name can fill a heart.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that fills you up inside even when nothing on the outside has changed?
