Once You See Through It, You Set It Down

ham tis kaa baho jaani-aa bhay-o.
I know her secrets well
jab hoo-ay kirpaal milay gurday-o.
- in His Mercy, the Divine Guru met me.
kaho kabeer ab baahar paree.
Says Kabir, now I have thrown her out.
sansaarai kai anchal laree. ||4||4||7||
She clings to the skirt of the world. ||4||4||7||

In plain words

Once grace helped me see clearly, I understood exactly how this craving works.

So I set it down and let it go. It still tugs at the sleeve of the world — but no longer at mine.

Once you truly see how a craving works, you can quietly set it down.
The deeper layer

Jab hoo-ay kirpaal milay gurdayv — when grace came, the Guru was met, and Kabir knew her secrets. Understanding does the freeing; he simply sets the craving down. It doesn't vanish from the world — sansaarai kai anchal laree, it still clings to the world's hem — but it no longer clings to him. Seeing clearly is release.

A Question to Sit With

Has understanding *why* you wanted something ever helped you let it go?
