Even The Great Ones Felt Its Reach

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੀਆ ॥
sohaagan bhavan tarai lee-aa.
This bride has conquered the three worlds.
ਦਸ ਅਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਤੀਰਥ ਰਸ ਕੀਆ ॥
das ath puraan tirath ras kee-aa.
The eighteen Puraanas and the sacred shrines of pilgrimage love her as well.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਰ ਬੇਧੇ ॥
barahmaa bisan mahaysar bayDhay.
She pierced the hearts of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu.
ਬਡੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੈ ਛੇਧੇ ॥੪॥
baday bhoopat raajay hai chhayDhay. ||4||
She destroyed the great emperors and kings of the world. ||4||

In plain words

This pull is so far-reaching that even the great sages, the old holy books, and the sacred places felt its tug.

Even the mightiest beings of the old stories, even great kings, were swept up by it. That's how strong it is.

If even the greatest felt the pull of having, there's no shame in feeling it too.
The deeper layer

Kabir reaches into the shared imagery of his world — the eighteen Puranas, the pilgrimage sites, even Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, and the great emperors — to show Maya's enormous reach. These references are held respectfully; they're not being mocked, but used to say: if even the greatest felt this pull, no wonder we do too. It levels everyone in shared humanity.

A Question to Sit With

Does it comfort you to know that even the wisest people have struggled with the same pulls you feel?
