Gond, Fourth Mehl:
jitnay saah paatisaah umraav sikdaar cha-uDhree sabh mithi-aa jhooth bhaa-o doojaa jaan.
All the kings, emperors, nobles, lords and chiefs are false and transitory, engrossed in duality - know this well.
har abhinaasee sadaa thir nihchal tis mayray man bhaj parvaan. ||1||
The eternal Lord is permanent and unchanging; meditate on Him, O my mind, and you shall be approved. ||1||

Kings and rulers, the powerful and the important — all of it passes, like a beautiful thing that does not last.
Only the One is truly steady, unchanging and always here — so I hold the One in my mind and feel at home.
Power and importance pass; only the One stays steady beneath it all.
Guru Ram Das lines up every worldly power — saah, paatisaah, umraav (kings, emperors, nobles) — and calls them mithi-aa (fleeting), caught in bhaa-o doojaa, the sense of being separate from the One. Set against them is har abhinaasee — the imperishable One. To be parvaan (approved) is not about status; it is the settledness of resting in what does not fade.
A Question to Sit With
What is something people chase that does not last — and what does last?
