Verse 6 of 6

Like Bare Ground Under a Blazing Sun

ਜੈਸੇ ਤਾਪਤੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਘਾਮਾ ॥
jaisay taaptay nirmal ghaamaa.
As the earth burns in the dazzling sunlight,
ਤੈਸੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਪੁਰੋ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੫॥੪॥
taisay raam naamaa bin baapuro naamaa. ||5||4||
so does poor Naam Dayv burn without the Lord's Name. ||5||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Without the One's Name I feel like bare ground under a blazing noon sun — parched, waiting for shade and rain.

A little holy homesickness keeps the heart forever turned toward the One.
The deeper layer

The closing image circles back to ache — nirmal ghaamaa, the fierce clean heat. After reunion and love, Namdev returns to longing on purpose: this is how a devoted heart lives, forever a little homesick, forever reaching. The burning is not despair; it is the healthy thirst that keeps the soul turned toward its water.

A Question to Sit With

Can missing something actually keep your love for it alive?
