Commentary

Raag Goojaree, Third Mehl (Guru Amar Das)

Become the stone that turns iron to gold — then remember you were touched first.

The Arc

Peace and a steady mind for the one who clears out the ego, which is what makes a mind wobble (P0). The Pause line wakes the dozing mind and offers the ever-fresh elixir (P1). The center is the paaras image — the transformed person turns others toward the One by contact, not preaching (P2) — sharpened by its warning: you cannot give what you lack; teach your own mind first (P3). The close returns it all to grace, so transformation stays a window, never a trophy (P4).

Key Vocabulary

  • paaras — the philosopher's/touchstone that turns iron to gold; the transmitting, transformed person (P2).
  • amrit ras — the sublime elixir, devotion as savored not endured (P1).
  • steady intellect (mat) — the unwobbling mind that follows the ego's removal (P0).
  • nadar / Glance of Grace — the kindness that alone makes anything possible (P4).

Themes and Cross-Connections

The paaras teaching (P2) — transform, then transmit — pairs with the "blind guru" warning (P3) to make one point: inner work precedes guidance. This is the same order as B00C1027's "become the Guru... but the Creator did this deed": the gift of helping others is itself grace (P4), which keeps the whole thing humble. The "steady, unwobbling mind" (P0) develops the raag's inner-victory motif (B00C1027 P3, B00C1028 P4).

For Raag Goojaree

The raag's ethic of influence: real change spreads by contact and by grace, never by performance or by giving what one hasn't got.
