Detachment Isn't Gloom but Clear Sight

The created world is like an illusion, a mirage - see this, and reflect upon it in your mind.

Says Nanak, vibrate forever the Name of the Lord, which shall deliver you. ||2||2||

In plain words

The whole made world is like an illusion, a mirage — see this and reflect on it.

Nanak says: keep saying the One's Name, which alone will carry you through.

Detachment isn't gloom — it's the clear sight that lets you stop chasing mirages and drink from the real source.
The deeper layer

The world we see is like a mirage. Only the One's Name can carry us across.

Marig tarisnaa ji-o jag rachnaa — the made world is like a mirage. On a hot road, a mirage looks like a pool of water. But you cannot drink from it. The world is real, but it does not last, and it cannot fill the deepest thirst. Yeh daykhhu ridai bichaar — see this, and think about it in your heart.

Against the mirage stands one thing: bhaj raam naam nit, remember the One's Name always. Jaa tay hot uDhaar — through it you are set free.

The Ninth Guru's letting go is not sad or gloomy. It is seeing clearly. Think of a hot, thirsty day. Once you know the shimmer on the road is not water, you stop running after it. You go to the tap and drink real water.

A Question to Sit With

What 'mirage' have you chased that looked like water but couldn't quench your thirst?
