The One Treasure No Grime Can Stain

nirmal naam jit mail na laagai gurmat naam japai liv laavai.
Immaculate is the Naam, which cannot be stained by filth. Through the Guru's Teachings, chant the Naam with love.
naam padaarath jin nar nahee paa-i-aa say bhaagheen mu-ay mar jaavai. ||3||
That man who has not found the wealth of the Naam is most unfortunate; he dies over and over again. ||3||

In plain words

The Name is spotless — no grime can stain it. Through the teaching, say it with love.

The one who never finds the wealth of the Name is truly unlucky, dying and being reborn to the same ache over and over.

The one treasure no grime can stain is the one it's safe to build a whole life on.
The deeper layer

The verse gives the Name a striking property: it is unstainable — "cannot be stained by filth." Unlike outer purities that dirt undoes, this inner treasure cannot be soiled; it is safe to keep. The dark half — the one "most unfortunate" who "dies over and over again" — is best heard as the weary repetition of a life stuck in the same unmet ache, cycling through the same wanting. The remedy is right beside it: chant the unstainable Name with love. What can never be dirtied is exactly what a person can safely build their life on.

A Question to Sit With

What could you rest your life on that nothing external could ever spoil?
