Much Wandering Mistakes the False for the True

In His mercy and kindness, the Guru has given me the divine wisdom of God, and a discriminating intellect. ||1||

In plain words

The one Name is the support of the One's lovers, their anchor here and beyond.

In kindness, the teaching gave me a knowing of the One, and an intellect that can tell true from false.

Much of a wandering life comes from mistaking the false for the true — wisdom is the trained eye that tells them apart.
The deeper layer

This line names two gifts the Guru gives: something to hold on to, and eyes to tell true from false.

The first gift: naam ayk aDhaar bhagtaa — the one Name is the support of those who love the One. Eet aagai tayk — here and after, it is their anchor. An anchor is a heavy weight that keeps a boat steady in a storm.

The second gift: buDh bibayk, a mind that can tell real from fake. This one matters quietly. A lot of wandering in life comes from thinking the fake thing is the real thing.

Think of a bank teller who has handled so many real bills that a fake one feels wrong in her hand at once. Wisdom is a trained eye like that. With an anchor to hold you and clear eyes to see, a person stops drifting.

A Question to Sit With

Where would a clearer eye for 'real versus counterfeit' change the choices you're making right now?
