In plain words

Give up every clever trick, and take shelter with the good.

Sing the praises of the Highest, the One beyond all reach.

You can't easily drop the scheming alone — you drop it by stepping into a place where you no longer need it.
The deeper layer

This line says: put down your clever tricks, and come stand with good people.

Chhaad sagal si-aanpaa — give up all your cleverness. SaaDh sarnee aa-o — come into the shelter of the good and holy. Then sing the praises of the Highest One, paarbarahm, the One beyond everything.

These two go together. Putting down the tiring tricks, and stepping into good company, are really one step.

It is hard to stop scheming all by yourself. Think of a kid who keeps making excuses and fibs at a new school to fit in. Then they find a group of true friends who like them as they are. The fibs just stop, because they aren't needed anymore. Finding a safe place is what makes it possible to let the cleverness go.

A Question to Sit With

What 'clever tricks' would you naturally stop using if you felt truly safe and held?
