Learning Where to Bring Your Needs Is a Gift

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ॥
bhaa-ee ray raam naam chit laa-ee.
O Siblings of Destiny, focus your consciousness lovingly on the Lord's Name.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਾਚੇ ਐਸੀ ਨਾਮ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur parsaadee har parabh jaachay aisee naam badaa-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
By Guru's Grace, one begs of the Lord God; such is the glorious greatness of the Naam. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Family of the heart — rest your attention, lovingly, on the One's name.

By grace, a person learns to beg from the One; such is the glory of the Name.

Learning where to bring your needs is itself a gift — many never learn where to ask.
The deeper layer

The Pause line names the practice — loving attention on the Name — and, tenderly, calls even asking a grace: "by Guru's Grace, one begs of the Lord." To learn to bring your needs to the right door is itself a gift; many never learn where to ask. The "glorious greatness of the Naam" is that it turns a scattered, self-reliant person into one who knows how to receive. Even our begging is graced.

A Question to Sit With

Have you learned where to bring your deepest needs? What taught you?
