Verse 6 of 9

The Counting Exhausts, and Hands You the Immeasurable

ਦਰਬਾਰਨ ਮਹਿ ਤੇਰੋ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ਸਰਨ ਪਾਲਨ ਟੀਕਾ ॥
darbaaran meh tayro darbaaraa saran paalan teekaa.
Among courts, Yours is the Court. Yours is the Most Sublime of Sanctuaries.
ਲਖਿਮੀ ਕੇਤਕ ਗਨੀ ਨ ਜਾਈਐ ਗਨਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਸੀਕਾ ॥੫॥
lakhimee kaytak ganee na jaa-ee-ai gan na saka-o seekaa. ||5||
The extent of Your wealth cannot be determined. Your Coins cannot be counted. ||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Among courts, Yours is the Court. Yours is the highest of all shelters.

The reach of Your wealth cannot be measured; Your coins cannot be counted.

The point of listing superlatives was never to reach a total — it's to exhaust the counting and hand you over to the immeasurable.
The deeper layer

The verse gathers the litany toward the immeasurable: the One's "Court" is the highest, its "Sanctuary" the most sublime, and its wealth simply "cannot be determined" — "Your Coins cannot be counted." After naming so many superlatives, the litany admits the total is uncountable. The point of listing was never to reach a sum but to exhaust the counter and hand them over to the immeasurable. Every category topped, and still the whole overflows all counting.

A Question to Sit With

What in your life is genuinely 'uncountable' — too much to add up? How do you hold it?
