Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The One is without kin, spotless, all-powerful, out of reach, endless.
Truly it is the truest of the true; nothing it made ever turns out false. The Great Giver feeds everyone it made. It has strung all things on a single thread and poured its light into them. By its Will some drown, and by its Will some are carried across. Only the one it destines truly remembers it. Your state can't be known; I give myself to You.
The first Pauree restates the One-Thread — "He has strung all on only one thread; He has infused His Light in them" — the non-dual vision that all diversity hangs on one unity. And it holds a hard mystery honestly: some "drown" and some are "carried across" by the same Will, whose "state cannot be known." The Vaar does not pretend to explain everything; it bows before what it cannot fathom and gives itself over.
Where do you meet a mystery you can't explain? Can you bow before it rather than force an answer?
