Beloved, You gave me the silk robe of Your love to cover and protect my honor.
You are all-wise, all-knowing, my Master; Nanak says, I have never fully grasped Your worth.
Your dignity can be a garment given by love, not earned — and that love outpaces anything you could measure.
A tender Shalok: the One's love is "the silk gown" that covers and protects one's honor — dignity as a garment given, not earned. And it ends in humble admission: "I have not appreciated Your value." This is love that outpaces our understanding of it — we are clothed and protected by a care we never fully measure. The right response is not to finish measuring but to be grateful we are covered.
A Question to Sit With
What care in your life have you received more of than you ever fully appreciated?
