Those the One blesses with kindness and mercy are the pure and holy ones.
Being near them, Nanak is saved; with love and overflowing joy, they sing the One's wonder.
The shabad ends by identifying the lotus-souls of the previous verse as "the sublime and sanctified Saints" — and then locates the seeker's own hope in proximity to them: "associating with them, Nanak is saved." Once more the raag's steady faith in company: you become like those you're near, so being near the free, joyful, unclinging saints frees you too. And note the tone of these saints — "love and exuberant joy" (bigsaa, blossoming). The detachment of the lotus is not cold or grim; it overflows in glad singing. True freedom from clinging does not make you distant; it makes you joyful, and that joy is catching. The way to become a lotus is to keep company with lotuses.
Who do you know that seems both fully involved in life and genuinely free and joyful? What might rub off from being near them?
