In plain words

They seem to keep company with everyone, yet stay unattached, and illusion does not cling to them.

Absorbed in love of the One, they grasp the heart of reality, and the teacher blesses them with wisdom.

The ideal isn't withdrawing from the world — it's being fully in it, among people, engaged, yet not ensnared. Like a lotus in water: rooted in the pond, never soaked. You can be completely involved and completely free at once.
The deeper layer

This is the lotus in the water: the one who "keeps company with everyone but remains detached." They are fully in the world — engaged, present, among people — and yet Maya does not cling. This is the Grihast path perfected: not withdrawal from life but a particular quality of presence within it — engaged without being ensnared, loving without grasping. The secret is where their root is: "absorbed in love of the One." Because the deep attachment is already given to the One, the surface engagements don't hook them. You can be completely involved and completely free at once.

A Question to Sit With

Is it possible to be fully involved in life — friends, work, everything — and still not be trapped or controlled by it? What would that take?
