In plain words

A love built on anything other than the One will break.

Nanak, the true way of life is the one that stirs up love of the One.

Any love you make your *final* foundation will crack, because everything but the One is passing. Human loves are precious — they only break when we ask them to be everything. The one love that never breaks is love of the One.
The deeper layer

A clear, almost startling line: "that love shall break, which is established with any other than the Lord." Read carefully — this does not mean human loves are worthless (the whole Grihast path treasures them). It means that any love made ultimate, any love asked to be your final ground, will eventually crack, because everything other than the One is passing and cannot bear that weight (as Shabad 12 taught). Human loves are real and precious as human loves; they break only when we ask them to be God. The "true way of life" is the one that, through all its loves, keeps stirring up love of the One — the one love that does not break.

A Question to Sit With

What's the difference between loving people dearly and asking them to be your whole foundation? Why might only one love never break?
