Praise the One — unfathomable, beyond reach.
Every moment, sing the One's Name.
Be kind and meet me, O teacher, great Giver; Nanak longs for the One's loving worship.
The shabad ends holding two things together, as Jaitsree loves to: the One is "unfathomable and inaccessible" — utterly beyond reach — and the seeker sings its Name "each and every moment," as close as his own voice. Beyond reach, yet on the lips continually. And the final note is pure longing: "Nanak yearns for the Lord's devotional worship." What he wants is not a reward for devotion but the devotion itself — to be given the gift of loving the One. This is the raag's characteristic desire: not to get something from the One, but simply to be allowed to love it, moment by moment.
Can you want something so much that just being allowed to love it is enough — you don't even need a prize?
