Craving Isn't Beaten by Willpower but Displaced by Love

Through the Guru's Teachings, the five demons are over-powered, and the mind and body are filled with a sincere yearning for the Lord. ||2||

In plain words

Sing the wonder of the One of the universe.

Mastering mind and body, I have earned the profit of the Word.

Through the teacher's guidance the five demons are overpowered, and mind and body fill with sincere longing for the One.

The loud inner voices of craving and anger aren't beaten by sheer willpower — they're displaced when a stronger love fills the space. Master your mind by giving it something better to want.
The deeper layer

The panch vikaar, the five passions, appear — "the five demons are over-powered". But note how: "through the Guru's Teachings," not by the seeker's raw willpower. And note what fills the space they vacate: "sincere yearning for the Lord." This is the tradition's subtle psychology — the five are not simply suppressed, leaving a void; they are displaced by a stronger love. When longing for the One fills mind and body, the five lose their room. "Mastering mind and body" is thus not a grim conquest but the natural result of a heart that has found something it wants more than what the passions offered.

A Question to Sit With

Is it easier to fight a craving head-on, or to fill your heart so full of something better that the craving loses its room?
