Sikhism·Raag Kaanraa·Shabad 15
Verse 5 of 5

Freed From The Tangles

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜਬ ਭਏ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
paarbarahm jab bha-ay da-i-aal.
When the Supreme Lord God becomes Merciful,
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਉ ਛੂਟੇ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੪॥੩॥
kaho naanak ta-o chhootay janjaal. ||4||3||
says Nanak, then one is rid of worldly entanglements. ||4||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When the Supreme One becomes kind,

Nanak says, then the tangles of the world fall away.

When grace is received, the tangles let go on their own.
The deeper layer

When the Supreme One is kind, the world's tangles fall away.

Paarbarahm jab bha-ay da-i-aal: when the Supreme One grows kind. Chhootay janjaal: freed from the tangles, like a kite string finally worked loose from a tree. Nanak closes the shabad with grace as the key that sets you free.

A Question to Sit With

What is one worry you would love to feel simply loosen and fall away?
