Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O One, O Life of the world, be kind to me. Plant faith in the Naam in me.

Guru Nanak is the Guru, the Guru, the True Guru. In the True Guru's shelter, I am gathered in.

In the Guru's shelter, the heart is gathered in and held.
The deeper layer

Ask the Life of the world for faith in the Naam, and rest in the Guru's shelter.

Jagjeevan: Life of the world. Sardhaa: faith, a trust that settles deep in the heart. Saran: shelter, sanctuary. Guru Ram Das, signing as Nanak, praises the Guru again and again, guroo guroo hai satgur, and asks to be held in that shelter.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel most safe and gathered when the world feels big?
