You are the ocean of water, and I am Your fish. No one has ever found Your limits. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Your people praise You, O Lord; they sing Your glories, O Sovereign One.

You are the ocean, and I am Your fish. No one has ever found where You end.

You do not have to understand the ocean to belong in it.
The deeper layer

You can live inside the One the way a fish lives in the sea, at home without ever finding the edge.

Jal niDh (ocean) and meenay (fish) make one of Gurbani's tenderest pictures. The fish never leaves the water and never measures it, and it is perfectly at home there. The longing here is a happy one: a fish glad to swim in water that never ends.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel completely at home, held on every side?
