Says Nanak, I have attained the Sublime Essence of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. I touch the feet of the Holy. ||2||3||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Some have power, and some are given heaven, but out of millions, will anyone find freedom?

Nanak says: I have found the sweet taste of the Naam. I hold on to the feet of holy people.

Freedom is not found in power or reward, but in the sweetness of what is true.
The deeper layer

Freedom is rare, and it comes through the taste of the Naam and humble closeness to holy people.

Raaj is power, surgaa is heaven, yet mukat, freedom, is rare among millions (kot maDhay). Naam ras paa-ee-ai: the taste of the Naam is found. SaaDhoo charan gaha-o: I hold the feet of the Holy. Freedom comes through the Naam and humble closeness to holy people, more than through status. This answers the question the shabad began with.

A Question to Sit With

What feels more like freedom to you than winning or being on top?
