The humble servants of the Lord are protected by the Lord God, Har, Har, Har; servant Nanak seeks His Sanctuary. ||4||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
In the end, every living being the One has made is caught in the mouth of death.
The One, Har, Har, Har, keeps the One's servants safe. Nanak says: I, Your servant, have come to Your shelter.
Everything returns to the One in its time, and the One keeps its own safe.
Every living thing comes to its end one day, and the One shelters its own.
Kaalai mukh garsi-aa: caught in the mouth of death. It is an honest picture: everything that is born will one day die. Har jan ... prabh raakhay: the One keeps its people safe. Saran pa-i-aa: coming to rest in shelter, like a child running into a parent's arms. The shabad closes on refuge.
