One Light In Everyone

ayk jot ayko man vasi-aa sabh barahm darisat ik keejai.
The One, the Light of the One, abides within my mind; God, the One, is seen in all.
ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਭ ਏਕੈ ਹੈ ਪਸਰੇ ਸਭ ਚਰਨ ਤਲੇ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥੬॥
aatam raam sabh aykai hai pasray sabh charan talay sir deejai. ||6||
The One Lord, the Supreme Soul, is spread out everywhere; all place their heads beneath His Feet. ||6||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One, the Light of the One, lives in my mind; I see the One in all.

The One, the Soul of all, is spread out everywhere, and all bow their heads at the One's feet.

Once you see the one Light in everyone, no one is a stranger.
The deeper layer

There is one Light, and it is in everyone.

Ayk jot ayko man vasi-aa: the one Light, the single One, lives in the mind. Then sabh barahm darisat ik keejai: you see the same One in all.

Aatam raam sabh aykai hai pasray: the one Supreme Soul is spread out through everything. Think of one sun shining in a hundred puddles. Each puddle shows the same sun.

This is the heart of oneness. There is only the One, so there is no outsider and no one lesser. And so sabh charan talay sir deejai: everyone bows their head at the same feet.

A Question to Sit With

Where have you seen the same spark of goodness in very different people?
