Please shower Your Kind Mercy and take pity upon Nanak, that he may wash the feet of the Holy. ||8||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

As long as breath after breath moves within you, hurry, and take shelter with the One.

Nanak prays: be kind, be kind to me, so that I may wash the feet of the holy.

While you have breath, there is always time to turn toward what is good.
The deeper layer

While you have breath, turn to the One now.

Jab lag saas: as long as there is breath. Saran pareejai: take shelter with the One. The push is gentle: now is the time.

Think of a sunny afternoon. You do not save the playing for tomorrow. You go out while the light is here.

Then comes the prayer: kirpaa kirpaa kar Dhaarahu, please shower kindness. Mai saaDhoo charan pakheejai: so that I may wash the feet of the holy, and humbly serve good people. It is a prayer to spend the breath we have on what matters.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing would you most like to spend your days on?
