If someone slanders the humble servant of the Lord, God does not believe even a tiny bit of what he says. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Only the One, my Master, knows my innermost thoughts.

If anyone else speaks badly of the One's servant, the One does not believe even a tiny bit of what they say.

The One who sees your true heart is not fooled by what others say about you.
The deeper layer

The One knows your innermost thoughts, so slander against you weighs nothing.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Chitvanee: innermost thoughts, known only to the One. Nind, slander, counts for nothing: ik til nahee maanai, not even a sesame seed of it is believed. The One trusts the heart it can see directly, and being fully known is a kind of safety against gossip.

If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel to be understood by someone who sees who you are inside?
