Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Your servants sing Your praises, O One, Har, Har; they meditate on the One, the Master of the whole world.
Nanak says: O One, Master and Protector of Your servant, I am a sinking stone. Save me!
You can come with empty hands and still be lifted and carried.
You can ask the One to lift you even when you feel as heavy as a stone.
Ham paathar rakh budtha-ee: I am a stone, sinking; save me. It is a humble plea from someone who knows they cannot lift themselves. The Protector (raakhay) is asked to hold up what cannot float on its own, the way a boat carries stones across a river. Reaching out is itself the prayer.
A Question to Sit With
When you feel like you are sinking, who helps you rise?
