I am small, like a child, and You are my Father — steady, patient, always there.
Teach me. Give me the kind of understanding that helps me find You, right here in my own life.
And the way a cow grows calm and happy the moment she sees her calf, let me feel that You are glad to see me too — and hold me close.
The shabad closes as it is threaded throughout: in family love. Ham baarik har pitaa — I am the child, You the Father — and the prayer is simply for matee, the understanding by which the One is found. The cow-and-calf image answers the mother-and-child image of the previous pauri: love flowing in both directions, parent to child and child to parent. Guru Ram Das (Mehl 4) signs the shabad here (naanak).
