In plain words

Countless people wander the whole world searching for you — and not one of them ever finds your edges, because you have none.

Only those you bless with your grace truly become your own.

The infinite can't be found at the end of a search the way a destination can, because it has no edge to arrive at — it isn't seized by effort but given by grace.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan says the One has no edges, so no search can reach the end of the One. The only way in is a gift.

Khojat firay asankh ant na paaree-aa — countless people wander around searching, and none of them finds Your limit. People search everywhere. They travel the earth, read the holy books, and try hard practices. But no one reaches the edge of the One, because there is no edge to reach.

Think of trying to walk to the end of the sky. You can walk all day. The horizon keeps moving ahead of you. The One is like that. It is not a place at the end of a road.

So how does anyone come close? Say-ee ho-ay bhagat jinaa kirpaaree-aa — they alone become Your devotees (people who love You with their whole heart) whom You bless with Your grace (a free gift of love). It is not the cleverest searcher or the one who never gets tired. It is the one who is given the gift.

This sets the key for the whole shabad, and the Guru teaches it again and again. The One is not grabbed by effort. The One is given by grace. The searchers are not bad people. They are just looking in a way that cannot work. They try to reach what can only be received. The door opens from the One's side, and it opens with love.

A Question to Sit With

Where are you wearing yourself out searching for something that might only ever come as a gift?
