For me, there is no one else like You — nothing else even comes close. When Your kind glance falls on me, my whole life becomes worthwhile, my body fulfilled. Day and night You watch over me and keep me safe, like a parent who never stops caring. And the ones who face Your light, the **gurmukhs**, melt into that deep, easy peace, **sahaj**.
The prayer goes deeper: mai hor na ko-ee tuDhai jayhaa — for me, there is no one like You.
The lover has named everything that isn't the One: rank, body, things, all passing. Now comes the simplest truth of love: You can't be compared. Nothing stands beside You. This isn't a clever argument. It is what every true lover says of the one they love — there's nobody like you. These last verses are love's language finding its way home.
The second line is quiet and deep: tayree nadree seejhas dayhaa — by Your nadar, Your kind glance, my body is blessed and fulfilled. In the shabad before this one, the body was called kachee, passing, almost worthless if you cling to it. So what changed? The glance of grace. The same body that means little when chased for its own sake becomes full when grace touches it. It becomes the place that holds the Naam, where the inner jewel of the first verse is found. Grace doesn't reject the body. It lifts it up, and turns fading cloth into a sacred place.
Then a tender picture of constant care: an-din saar samaal har raakhahi — night and day, the Lord looks after us and protects us. Saar and samaal are words a parent uses for a child: caring for, holding close, keeping safe. After all the big talk of jewels and the endless, the shabad lands on this warm truth. You are being watched over, all the time, with love. And the fruit is sahj, easy peace. Gurmukh sahj samaavani-aa — those facing the Guru sink into that calm. You can only truly relax when you trust you are safe, like a child asleep in the back seat on the drive home. The One beyond compare, the kind glance and the constant care are what make that trust possible.
How does it change the way you move through a day if you really believe you're being watched over and cared for, night and day?
