Some lucky souls — the **gurmukhs** — are forever soaked through with love for the True One, like cloth dyed deep in color. They serve the One with an easy, natural grace, **sahaj**, and they stay joyfully "drunk" on that love day and night. Having met their Beloved, they sing His beautiful qualities, and in the One's court they receive real honor.
This verse says that once the heart is soaked in love for the One, doing good becomes easy and even joyful.
After the picture of the robbed manmukh, the song swings to the bright side: the gurmukh, the one facing the Guru, who has won the inner battle. The key picture is dye. "Sachai rang raatay" — dyed in the color of the True One. Once the five robbers are cleared out of the house, the house fills with a color that lasts. We're always being colored by something. Clear out the fading colors of craving, and the lasting color of the One soaks in, like a white T-shirt dipped deep in dye.
Notice sehjay: with natural ease. "Sehjay parabh sayveh" — they serve God with ease. The gurmukh doesn't serve through gritted teeth or grim duty. Once the wrestling with the mind is won, serving flows like water downhill, because the heart now wants what it once had to fight for. That's the reward of the whole struggle. Goodness stops being a chore and becomes your natural way. You don't have to force yourself to do what you truly love, like a kid who can't wait to get to soccer practice.
Then the happy word maatay, "an-din maatay" — night and day, full of joy, almost dizzy with love. It's a picture of being swept up in love for the One, lit with quiet joy all the time. The world offers plenty of fake highs; the robbers are good at those. This is the real joy, and it doesn't leave you worse off later.
From that overflowing love comes singing: "sachay gun gaavahi," they sing the True One's goodness. And "har dar sobhaa paavni-aa" — they're honored at the Lord's door. Sobhaa means honor. Not the world's clapping, but the real dignity of a soul that found what it was made for.
Can you think of something you love so much that doing it feels easy and joyful, not like work? What would it be like to feel that way about being kind and good?
