In plain words

Hidden and revealed, You are in *all* places, O One — everywhere, whether we see You or not. By meeting the Guru's grace, this understanding finally dawns. Nanak says: praise the **Naam** forever, and — facing the light — settle it deep in your heart.

The One you finally found hidden inside is the same One revealed in all places — and the way to live it is plain: keep the Name in your heart, facing the light.
The deeper layer

The One we found hidden inside is the same One who is everywhere. And the way to live with that is simple: keep the Name in your heart.

Gupat pargat toon sabhnee thaa-ee — hidden and shown, You are in all places. The song lifts its eyes from the inner cave to the whole world. The One is not only in the cave of your body. That is where you finally found Him. But He is sabhnee thaa-ee, in all places. Sometimes gupat (hidden, beneath the surface). Sometimes pargat (shown, shining out plainly). The treasure inside is the same One who fills the whole universe. Look inside and find Him. Then look around and find Him everywhere too. Another shabad says, "Wherever I look, there is the One."

The words "hidden and shown" were in the first verse too. So the song ends where it began, but with a difference. At the start it was a puzzle. How can the treasure be hidden and still be there? At the end it is understood. What changed? The journey happened. The seeker quieted the ego, came home, found the inner door, and heard the music.

Think of a map of a new city that makes no sense until you have walked its streets. Then the same map is clear.

And how did the understanding come? Gur parsaadee mil sojhee paa-ee — by meeting the Guru's grace, this understanding was found. It was not figured out or earned. It was received as a gift.

The last line speaks straight to you. Naanak naam salaahi sadaa toon gurmukh man vasaavani-aa — Nanak says, praise the Name always, and as a gurmukh (one who faces the Guru), keep it in your heart. After all the rich pictures — caves, heavy doors, the tenth gate, the unstruck music — it comes down to something plain and doable. Praise the Name. Keep it in your heart, day after day, facing the Guru.

You do not need to be a yogi who has mastered secret gates. The inner door opens, the cave gives up its treasure, and the music plays through a humble, everyday habit. Keep the Name, and keep facing the light.

A Question to Sit With

Now that the song says the One is "in all places, hidden and revealed" — where, in your ordinary day, might you start noticing Him that you hadn't before?
