The One is both hidden and everywhere you look — beyond every shape, and also right here inside every shape there is.
The people who truly *get* this are the real wise ones. It's not because of their degrees or how much they've read. It's because they hold the **Name** (the living presence of the One) in their hearts.
And that holding doesn't only lift them across; it lifts whole families — the ones who came before them and the ones who come after.
This verse says the One is both beyond everything and inside everything. People who truly see this are the real wise ones.
Nirgun sargun aapay so-ee — He Himself is both. Nirgun means without qualities: beyond every shape and form. Sargun means with qualities: present in every shape and form. These aren't two Gods, a hidden one and a visible one. They are one Oneness, far beyond creation and fully inside it at the same time. Think of the sun: far away in the sky, yet also the warmth on your face. There's no edge where one stops and the other begins.
Then Guru Amar Das gives a new meaning to pandit, a scholar. Tat pachhaanai so pandit ho-ee — whoever recognizes the essence is the true pandit. Tat means the essence, the heart of the matter. The true scholar isn't the one with the most learning. It's the one who knows the essence, not just the books. Knowing that the One is both beyond and within is the only degree that counts.
Then comes a surprising promise: aap tarai saglay kul taarai — they cross over themselves, and carry all their family across too. Kul means family line, the ones who came before. One awake life isn't a private prize. It spreads outward, and even backward, lifting the whole family line — like one person in a family learning to swim, then teaching everyone else. This is the opposite of the lonely, grabbing self of the song before this one. The awake soul belongs to a web of people and carries them along. When there is no real separation, no one is ever saved all alone.
Have you ever noticed how one person waking up to something can quietly change a whole family?
