What a blessing it is to be born at all — and that whole life turns fruitful the moment you find a true teacher.
In the fire of the Word, your craving for 'two-ness' burns away, and you start to feel the One present everywhere inside you. Then, among true companions who are turned the same way, the most natural thing in the world is to sing.
This one celebrates the moment a life turns fruitful.
Safal janam jinaa satgur paa-i-aa — fruitful is the life of those who find the True Guru. Safal means full of fruit, fulfilled. Being born human is precious because it carries the chance to wake up. That chance ripens into fruit when you find a true teacher. It's like a seed that has been waiting in the ground. Water and sun reach it, and it finally grows into what it was made to be.
How does it happen? Again, the fire of the Word: doojaa bhaa-o gur sabad jalaa-i-aa — the Guru's shabad burns up doojaa bhaa-o, love of "the second," the feeling of being separate from the One. It isn't fought. It is burned in the Word until the wish to stay apart is simply gone. And what's left when that smoke clears? Ayko rav rahi-aa ghat antar — the One fills the heart, deep inside. With the smoke gone, you see the One was filling everything the whole time, most of all your own heart.
The verse ends with friends: mil satsangat har gun gaavani-aa — joining the Sat Sangat, the company of true people, they sing the One's praises. Guru Amar Das says often that you don't get there alone. The Sat Sangat is the company of people who lift you up, where the ego grows quiet and your real self can show. Think of a choir: singing alone you might feel shy, but together the song comes easily. Among such friends, finding the One inside spills over into song.
Who are the people in whose company you become more honest, more yourself, more alive — and are you spending enough time with them?
