Raag Maale Gaorhaa
Commentary

Raag Maale-Gaorhaa, Chau-Padas, Mehl 5 (Guru Arjan)

The One is with everyone, never far — carefree, fair, and endlessly generous.

The Arc

A hymn to a near, generous, carefree One. From the rahao — the One is with all, the cause of causes, present here and now — it moves through coming alive by hearing the Name, to no one being sent away empty-handed, to the carefree One who answers to no one and does all by itself, and closes on the good company as a gift given, not earned.

Key Vocabulary

  • Sang sagal / hajir hajoor — with all / present here and now
  • Kaaran karan — the cause of causes
  • Bayparvaah — carefree — owing nothing to anyone
  • Suniai — deep listening — which revives

Themes and Cross-Connections

The 'carefree One who answers to no one' is a comforting picture: nothing to bribe, no strings to pull, just rest your attention there. 'Righteous justice' is rendered as steady fairness. The close names the gift deenaa — given — grace received.

For Raag Maale-Gaorhaa

Nearness and generosity — the raag's twin comforts — are stated most directly here: 'with all, never far.'
