The Fear of Death Lifts

jinH har naam Dhi-aa-i-aa tinH chookay sarab janjaalaa.
Those who meditate on the Name of the Lord - all their entanglements are ended.
tinH jam nayrh na aavee gur raakhay har rakhvaalaa. ||2||
The Messenger of Death does not even approach them; the Guru, the Savior Lord, saves them. ||2||

In plain words

Those who hold the Name — all their tangles come undone.

The fear of death can't loom over them; the teacher, the rescuer, keeps them safe.

Holding the Name close, the fear of death loses its shadow.
The deeper layer

The literal's "Messenger of Death does not approach" is softened to "the fear of death can't loom." Jam (death) here is disarmed by remembrance; the point is freedom from dread, so the frightening figure is turned into a fear that simply lifts.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel safe when a scary thought shows up?
