He is the Light of all, the Life of the world; The True Lord writes His Inscription on each and every head. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Dear one, do not see the True Master as far away.

The One is the light in all, the life of the world, and has written on every forehead.

The One you look for far away is the very life moving in you.
The deeper layer

The One is not far away. The One is right here, the life inside everything.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line. It is the center of the whole song, the line everything else leans on. Saachaa saahib door na daykh means: do not see the True Master as far away.

Why not? Because the One is sarab jot, the light in all. The One is jagjeevanaa, the life of the world. Think about the power in your home. You never see it, but it runs the lights, the fridge and the phone charger in every room. The One is like that, only closer. The One is the life moving in you right now.

Sir sir saachaa laykh: the True One has written on every single forehead. No one is left out. This nearness is the steady note of the whole raag. The One is not a ruler sitting far off, but the life beating in every living thing.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you notice life and light close around you every day?
