Learning How to Serve

satgur sayveh say jan saachay.
Those humble beings who serve the True Guru are true.
manmukh sayv na jaanan kaachay.
The false, self-willed manmukhs do not know how to serve the Guru.
aapay kartaa kar kar vaykhai ji-o bhaavai ti-o laa-ee hay. ||13||
The Creator Himself creates the creation and watches over it; he attaches all according to the Pleasure of His Will. ||13||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Those who serve the Guru are true.

A heart lost in itself has not yet learned how to serve that way.

The One makes the whole world and watches over it, drawing each of us close in its own good time.

Giving yourself well is something the heart learns, gently, over time.
The deeper layer

Seva (giving yourself) is a skill the heart learns slowly. Meanwhile the One watches over all and draws each near in its own time, a quiet comfort.

A Question to Sit With

What is a way of helping that you are still learning how to do well?
